How do I use the DealCloser MCP Connector with Harvey?

The DealCloser MCP Connector gives Harvey secure access to your DealCloser projects, allowing you to use transaction data and take actions in DealCloser directly from Harvey.

What is the MCP Connector?

The DealCloser MCP (Model Context Protocol) Connector connects Harvey to the transactions you manage in DealCloser.

Once connected, Harvey can access your DealCloser project context — including checklists, rows, custom fields, tasks, project metadata, and other structured transaction data — and use that context as part of your work in Harvey. Harvey can also take supported actions in DealCloser, such as updating checklist data, creating tasks, and adding comments.

Access is scoped to your DealCloser account. Harvey can only access projects and project data that you are already authorized to access in DealCloser.

What can I do with the connector?

Once connected, you can ask Harvey questions about your DealCloser projects, such as:

  • "What's the overall status of Project Zeus?"

  • "Which checklist items are still outstanding?"

  • "What are the key upcoming dates for this transaction?"

  • "Which items are assigned to me?"

  • "Are there any unassigned items or potential blockers?"

  • "What information is being tracked for the closing conditions?"

Harvey can identify the appropriate DealCloser project and retrieve its structured project data to answer your question. The connector includes tools specifically designed for broad project questions as well as more detailed queries for individual records, checklist items, fields, users, and other project data.

The connector can also take actions in DealCloser. For example, you can ask Harvey to:

  • "Add a comment to the Financing Documents item asking Sarah to review the latest version."

  • "Create a CP checklist from contents of the Credit Agreement."

  • "Add 'Obtain regulatory approval' to the Closing Conditions checklist."

  • "Rename 'Financing' to 'Financing Documents'."

  • "Create a high-priority task for Sarah to review the SPA by Friday."

  • "Enable the Estimated Completion Date column on the checklist."

  • "Set the Estimated Completion Date for the Financing Documents item to September 30."

Supported actions include adding comments, creating checklist tabs and rows, renaming rows, creating or updating tasks, enabling existing custom fields as checklist columns, and updating checklist column values.

Setting up the connector

To complete the steps below, you will need an active DealCloser account and access to a Harvey workspace where the DealCloser Connector has been enabled.

Step 1: Ask your Harvey workspace administrator to enable DealCloser

Connectors from Harvey's Connector Library must first be enabled by a Harvey workspace administrator before individual users can connect them.

If you don't see DealCloser as an available connector, contact your Harvey workspace administrator.

Step 2: Connect DealCloser to Harvey

  1. Once DealCloser has been enabled for your workspace:

  2. Find DealCloser in Harvey's available connectors.

  3. Select the option to connect your DealCloser account.

  4. Harvey will redirect you to DealCloser to authenticate.

  5. Log in using your DealCloser account and authorize the connection.

  6. Once authorization is complete, return to Harvey.

Each user connects their own DealCloser account. Harvey securely stores the resulting authentication token and uses it when making requests to DealCloser on that user's behalf.

Step 3: Verify the connection

Start a conversation in Harvey and ask:

"List my DealCloser projects."

Harvey should return the DealCloser projects available to your authenticated account. The connector retrieves project names and identifiers so Harvey can identify the correct transaction for subsequent requests.

If your projects appear, the connector is working correctly.

Using DealCloser as part of a larger Harvey workflow

You don't need to use the connector only for standalone DealCloser questions.

Harvey can use DealCloser as part of a broader workflow, combining Harvey's legal analysis with the structured transaction data and workflows managed in DealCloser.

For example:

  • "Review these closing conditions against the current DealCloser checklist for Project Zeus. Identify anything that's missing and add the missing items to the Closing Conditions checklist."

  • "Review this agreement and identify the key deliverables required before closing. Compare them against Project Zeus in DealCloser and create checklist items for anything we're not already tracking."

  • "Summarize the outstanding items for Project Zeus, identify the ones due this week, and create tasks for the responsible team members where a task hasn't already been assigned."

This allows Harvey to perform legal analysis while DealCloser remains the structured transaction management system where checklist items, responsibilities, tasks, dates, comments, and other closing data are maintained.

Tips for using the connector effectively

The connector works best when you clearly identify the transaction and describe the outcome you want.

Be specific about the project - "What's outstanding on the Stark Industries acquisition?" is better than "What's outstanding on my deals?"

Describe the action, not the DealCloser tool - you don't need to know commands such as query_project_data or modify_column_value. Tell Harvey what you want to accomplish in natural language and it can determine which DealCloser tools are required.

Give Harvey enough context for write actions - for example, "Assign Sarah a task" may be ambiguous. "Create a task for Sarah to review the SPA by September 18 on the SPA checklist item" gives Harvey enough information to identify the appropriate project data and action.

Use Harvey and DealCloser together for multi-step work - a request can begin with analysis in Harvey and end with an action in DealCloser. You can ask Harvey to analyze documents or information, compare its findings against the transaction, and then update the DealCloser workflow based on those findings.

Permissions and access

The DealCloser Connector uses your existing DealCloser permissions.

All MCP requests are scoped to the authenticated DealCloser user, and the connector only exposes projects and project data that user is already authorized to access.

Connecting DealCloser to Harvey does not give you access to additional DealCloser projects or information.

Troubleshooting

"I don't see DealCloser in Harvey" - Ask your Harvey workspace administrator to confirm that the DealCloser Connector has been enabled for your workspace. Harvey requires a workspace administrator to enable a Connector Library integration before individual users can connect to it.

"I don't see my project" - Check your DealCloser permissions. The connector can only surface projects your DealCloser account is authorized to access. Log in to DealCloser directly and verify that the project appears there. If it does, try reconnecting your DealCloser account in Harvey.

"Harvey can't find the correct project" - Use the complete DealCloser project name or provide additional identifying context. For example, instead of "Update the financing deal.", try "Update the Financing Documents checklist in the Project Zeus acquisition". This is particularly useful if you have multiple DealCloser projects with similar names

"Harvey can't make the change I requested" - The DealCloser Connector supports a defined set of write actions. Currently, these include:

  • adding comments;

  • creating checklist lists/tabs;

  • creating checklist rows;

  • renaming checklist rows;

  • creating or updating tasks;

  • enabling existing project custom fields as checklist columns; and

  • updating checklist column values.

Other DealCloser actions may still need to be completed directly in DealCloser.
